Many college students need help as they make the transition to higher education and more independence. The excellent and faithful learning environment at Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio is reinforced by academic advisors who support student engagement.

Academic advising and student services are a crucial component to student success and persistence throughout college. Franciscan students have the opportunity to work individually with a faculty advisor in their area of study. Advising comprises degree completion planning, course scheduling, career exploration, preparation for graduate studies, and networking with campus resources.

Many new students, including those who have declared a major, are still exploring various fields of study. Academic advising is available to assist those students in finding a major that complements their personal strengths, academic goals, and career objectives.

The Academic Advising Office offers a variety of services to support learning and student success:

Course scheduling and conflicts
Major Exploration
Degree completion plans and credit hours
Applying transfer credit to Franciscan curriculum
Understanding major, minor and core curriculum requirements
Questions regarding academic policy

Additional Information

New students are assigned their faculty advisor by the end of September (February, for students entering in spring semester) and can find information regarding degree requirements and their assigned advisor in The Port. Additional advising resources are also available on Canvas. Students are expected to meet with their advisor at least once per semester during pre-registration.

Fall advising for spring planning begins at the end of October and continues through the middle of November. Spring advising for summer and fall planning begins at the end of November and continues to the middle of April.
